CIPFA launch new charity accounting toolkit

CIPFA (The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy) have launched a new on-line charity accounting toolkit aimed at small and medium sized charities. Designed by a team of charity accounting experts in conjunction with BPP Learning Media, the toolkit is a flexible and user friendly training solution ideal for individuals who are new to charity finance and charitable organizations.  It comes complete with a self assessment module.

Its modules give a comprehensive introduction to:

             What is a Charity

             Charity Commission & Law

             Cash Book

             Bank Reconciliation

Receipts & Payments & Trustees Annual Report

             Advanced Accounting

             Management Reports and Budgeting

             Miscellaneous

             Assessment.

Andrew Hind, Chief Executive of the Charity Commission said, "The CIPFA Charity Accounting Toolkit is a valuable addition to existing resources for treasurers, staff and volunteers in charitable organisations. We particularly welcome its focus on small and medium-sized charities; it will prove a useful learning tool not only for those new to book-keeping and accounting but also for accountants who are new to the charity sector."

A demonstration module is available by registering at: www.bpp.com/cipfa/charityaccountingtoolkit.

Purchase of the toolkit provides unlimited access and use of the resource for one user for the period of one year and is priced at £99.00 (incl. VAT), with significant discounts for the purchase of multiple licences. Access to the Toolkit is enabled by a username and password, unique to each license.

Archbishop of York to join Youth for Christ for 2010 Commissioning

This post is to give you all advanced notice of the date and location for the Youth for Christ Commissioning & Showcase 2010. It will be held on the afternoon of the 23rd October, commencing at 1pm at Coventry Central Hall.  We would love you come and be a part of this and use it as an opportunity to commission your own staff and volunteers and celebrate with the wider family of YFC.
This event is a great opportunity to invite family, friends and supporters to see what is happening across the whole of the YFC movement.  There will be a time of worship, a short talk, and opportunities to share stories and information about the ministry of YFC and what God is doing in young people’s lives across the country.

This year we are delighted to welcome the Most Revd & Rt Hon Dr John Sentamu who will be joining us and speaking.  As president of YFC he will have many significant topical and insightful things to share with us on the day.  Please get this date in your diary now so that you don’t miss out on this fantastic occasion and consider making it a priority for yourself and your centre.

“We understand that time and travel is a challenge from Scotland, especially North Scotland. Please do contact Sandra in our Scotland Office sandra.blair@yfc.co.uk as she may be able to help with transport and even some overnight accommodation.”

Research into NEETs
The Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) is providing cash incentives for learning and skills providers to record interviews with current and former NEETs (Not in Education, Employment or Training) as part of a research project being conducted by the National Institute of Continuing Adult Education (NIACE).

Providers will also encourage NEETs to record their experiences through a range of media including video, diaries, stories, poems, scrapbooks, drawings and photographs. The resulting information will be used to inform government policy on how to reduce the record level of NEETs on a national basis and through local learning and skills providers.

Further Delays for Charitable Incorporated Organisation

There is an article out in Third Sector magazine that CIOs have been delayed and it may be later this year or even 2011 before Charities can register.

CIO status should allow charities to incorporate without registering with both the Charity Commission and Companies House. You can read the article by clicking on this link.
