Bath YFC
Bath YFC
has been committed to serving the young people of Bath for over thirty years.
This has been outworked in a variety of ways.
Working in the secondary schools of
Bath has always been at the heart of what we do.
Currently our
work is made up of the following:
One Eighty
skateboarding
project has been running for five years, One Eighty is a mobile skate park
project that provides a weekly session for local skateboarders.
We also run one off events for the local authority, local churches and
other community organisations. Once
a year we also run the skate park at Greenbelt Festival.
Furthermore the project seeks to train up young leaders through it’s
junior leadership scheme that gets the young people involved in leading the
project
Detached work
takes
place twice a week at the local skate park, the detached team will spend time
skating with and chatting to those who skate and/or just hang around at the
park. This work has provided many
opportunities to work with young people who would not go anywhere near a youth
centre/club.
Schools work
– We work in schools in a variety of ways.
We are involved in running after school clubs at a couple of local
secondary schools. One is an
activity based club and the other a football team, in partnership with a local
church (Team ASK). As part of this
project we run tournaments and in the coming months are working with the local
school to run FA coaching courses for the young people involved.
Furthermore we work within the school curriculum, running Rock Solid
(YFC’s exploration of life and faith course), taking Religious Education and
PSHE/Citizenship lessons. Thrive is
our six week skateboarding course for schools.
The session focuses on a subject such as ‘perseverance’ and combines a
work book with a practical skateboarding session in which those who come along
set out to achieve self set targets.
At the end of the course they gain the ‘Thrive’ certificate.
Motus Dance
Academy
is Bath YFC’s dance project working with mainly girls
from across the city, providing street and hip-hop dance lessons twice a week.
The girls will throughout the year perform publicly in their own dance
show and other local events.
Graff
is the
diversionary project which makes up a partnership between
Bath YFC, the local authority and local police as part of the
anti-graffiti partnership in Bath.
The project provides a weekly session for young people who have either
been conviction or are ‘at risk’ of being convicted of engaging in illegal
graffiti. Statistics have shown
that this work has successfully reduced incidents of illegal graffiti since it
started a couple of years ago.
Fuse
is a Wednesday night drop in run by young people for young people with the
support of Bath YFC.
Each week the young people come just out chill out together, play pool
and listen to music.
